ABSTRACT
Background/Aims:
Recently, many pancreato-biliary abstracts and results for research were submitted to scientific meetings annually. But, until now, the fates of them were not known in Korea. The objective of this study was to determine full publication ratio of submitted abstracts and fields of recent pancreato-biliary study. And, we try to find how more pancreato-biliary abstracts to be published.
Methods:
All abstracts (n=475) submitted to the annual meeting of 'The Korean Society of Gastroenterology (KSG)' and 'The Korea Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE)' were recpectively reviewed between 2003 to 2008 year. We searched for evidence of full publication of submitted abstracts using database such as Pubmed, Koreamed, KMbase etc. All abstracts were reviewed whether abstracts to be published or not between October, 2003 and April, 2009.
Results:
475 abstracts (biliary topics 266 (56%), pancreatic topics 171 (36%)) were submitted to KSG and KSGE annual meeting. Only twenty percent (95/475) of submitted abstracts was published to full manuscript. Among 95 fully published abstracts, thirty manuscripts were published as Science Citation Index (SCI) paper. Conclusion: The overall rate of full length publication of submitted abstracts about a field of pancreato-biliary research was only 20% in Korea. Also, the rate of publication to SCI paper was very low. From now on, several points of improvement that more submitted abstracts would be published to full length manuscript are considered through a full argument and persistent efforts by researcher.
