ABSTRACT |
Acute pancreatitis is an acute inflarnmatory process of the pancreas and main causes were gallstone and alcohol. However, there are many other etiologies of the disease. We recently experienced a rare case of acute pancreatitis developed from gastric carcinoma in a 55-year-old man. He had diagnosed gastric carcinoma 2 months ago. During conservative treatment, the patient complained epigastric pain. Gastrofiberscopy showed ulcerating mass with luminal narrowing in antrum of the stomach and UGI revealed antral ulceration with duodenal 2nd portion invasion. On abdominal CT, there was a thickened antral wall of the stomach with invasion to the duodenum and pancreatic head portion. Serum amylase level was 1,000 U/ml and decreased with conservative treatment. Thus it was concluded that acute pancreatitis was developed in a patient with gastric carcinoma invased to the duodenum and pancreas. |
